Growing Tips

Where to Plant

Choose a spot in full sun or partial shade, ideally where the plant can get a few hours of morning or afternoon sun. Avoid very dry or exposed areas, and ensure roots are shaded—either with mulch or companion plants.

Soil & Feeding

Plant in moist, well-drained fertile soil. Enrich with compost before planting and feed in spring with a slow-release fertiliser or clematis feed.

Pruning (Group 2)

Prune lightly in late winter or early spring, removing dead or weak stems. After the first flush of flowers, you can lightly prune to encourage a second round of blooms later in the season.

Support

Support your plant with a small trellis, obelisk, or wires. Tie in young shoots as they grow to help it establish quickly and climb with ease.
